Strongbow Exploration Inc. – Exploring for Gold and Nickel

Overview

Strongbow Exploration Inc. (CVE:SBW) is a junior exploration company based in Vancouver, Canada.  Strongbow has several areas of focused exploration in both Canada and the United States. The Company is currently concentrating its efforts on its Midway gold project in South Carolina, but is also working on defining a new belt of nickel/copper/cobalt sulphide deposits in central Canada and a number of early stage gold and copper-gold properties in British Columbia. In addition, Strongbow owns approximately 10% of diversified explorer North Arrow Minerals Inc (CVE:NAR), which is currently is evaluating a number of North American gold, diamond and lithium prospects.

Investment Highlights

  • Strategic land position with defined drill targets located directly along strike for Romarco Minerals (CVE:R) 4.2 million ounce Haile gold mine property in South Carolina
  • NI 43-101 resource on a nickel-copper sulphide deposit with excellent metallurgical recoveries within a larger under-explored belt in Saskatchewan and the NWT in Central Canada.
  • $3.6 million equity financing in November 2010

The Midway gold project encompasses approximately 2,350 acres and covers a 2.5 km strike along the length of the Haile-Brewer gold trend in South Carolina, USA. The Haile-Brewer trend extends for over 15 km between the past-producing Haile and Brewer gold mines located within the volcanic and sedimentary rocks of the Carolina Slate Belt (CSB). The CSB is host to a number of additional past producing mines including Rio Tinto's Ridgeway mine which had total gold production of approximately 1.5 million ounces. Romarco has been actively exploring the Haile Brewer gold trend since 2007 and has reported current measured and indicated resources for the Haile gold mine consisting of 43,000 kg gold with additional inferred resources 57,000 kg gold.

Despite its location along strike from and in close proximity to Romarco's Haile and Buzzard properties, extensive coastal plain sand deposits cover the Midway project properties. As a result, little past exploration work has been conducted in this area. Importantly, at the Haile gold mine, Romarco has recently reported the discovery of significant gold mineralization outside of existing resources and beneath the coastal plain sands, including intercepts of 60.7 m grading 11.9 grams per tonne (g/t) gold and 148.3 m grading 3.6 g/t gold at the newly discovered Horseshoe zone. Discovery of the Horseshoe zone has confirmed the potential of the CSB to host additional high grade gold mineralization along strike from the Haile gold mine beneath the sands of the coastal plain cover sequence.

During the fall of 2010, Strongbow commenced initial explorations on the Midway project.  Some highlights of recent explorations include:

  • Geochemical and airborne geophysical surveys of the Midway properties are complete;
  • Ten priority multi-element geochemical targets have been defined;
  • Total Midway project area now consists of 19 option agreements covering approximately 2,375 acres, including over 1,600 contiguous acres located between Romarco Minerals' Haile gold mine and Buzzard properties;
  • Midway project also includes approximately 100 acres adjoining the northeastern boundary of Romarco Minerals' Haile gold mine property, directly along strike from the Horseshoe gold deposit;
  • Regional geochemical surveys and land acquisition are now underway in an effort to identify multiple additional gold targets within the Carolina Slate Belt
  • Initial exploration drilling is anticipated to commence in Q1 2011

Snowbird Nickel King, Saskatchewan & Northwest Territories, Canada

Strongbow holds a 100% interest in the Snowbird nickel project, including the Nickel King property. The properties cover approximately 40,000 ha of the prospective Snowbird Tectonic Zone (“STZ”) in northern Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories. The STZ is a crustal-scale structure defining the boundary between the Hearne and Rae domains of the Archean Churchill Province. The Nickel King deposit in located within 7,642 ha on mineral claims and mining leases in the Northwest Territories located approximately 145 km northeast of Stony Rapids, Saskatchewan.

The Nickel King Ni-Cu-Co deposit is hosted within two arcuate stacked, moderately south-dipping norite sills (referred to as the Upper Sill and the Lower Sill) that have been traced over a 2.6 km strike length. To ensure long term, secure mineral tenure the mineral claims hosting the deposit have been converted to 21-year mining leases. The following are Nickel King's resource estimates:

Nickel King Deposit - Indicated resource estimate at various Ni cut-off grades:

Classification Nickel Cut-off (%) Tonnes (000s) Nickel
(%)
Copper
(%)
Cobalt
(%)
Indicated 0.15 14,082 0.35 0.08 0.016
0.20 11,111 0.40 0.10 0.018
0.30 7,340 0.48 0.12 0.021
0.50 2,773 0.62 0.15 0.027

Nickel King Deposit - Inferred resource estimate at various Ni cut-off grades:

Classification Nickel Cut-off (%) Tonnes (000s) Nickel(%) Copper(%) Cobalt(%)
Inferred 0.15 43,974 0.31 0.08 0.015
0.20 33,061 0.36 0.09 0.017
0.30 19,609 0.44 0.11 0.020
0.50 4,930 0.59 0.15 0.026

Strongbow believes the Nickel King resource could be expanded considerably with additional drilling. Mineralization in both the Upper and Lower Sills remains open along strike and the current resource does not account for potential mineralization within the current 2.6 km defined strike length. The Company estimates that between 10 and 27 million tonnes (Mt) of ‘potential mineral deposits' occupy the area of the geological resource model.  Initial metallurgical studies have been extremely positive and indicate the deposit is amenable to traditional processing techniques and capable of producing a final concentrate with grades of 16.5% Ni, 4.2% Cu and 0.74% Co at recoveries of 78.4% (Ni), 89.1% (Cu) and 63.5% (Co).
